TOURS
Individual and Group guided tours of Sacred Spaces are very popular including historical commentary, adapted to group.

Tours are any day by appointment.  Allow at least an hour and a half. The tour takes in the heritage room, museum, convent, chapel, chancel and gardens. 

There is also the Sisters’ historic cemetery close by.

The tours include a good amount of walking, but it is all flat, with many places to sit along the way, and few steps to negotiate. There is disabled accessWheelchairs can be provided, if notice is given ahead.

Refreshments can be served to large groups only in the old Sisters’ Refectory or visitors can bring their own and enjoy picnic facilities.

WEDDINGS

Convent Chapel is a stunning wedding venue and the Sisters welcome couples to marry there.  It is restricted to Catholic services, i.e. one of the parties must be of the Catholic faith.  Couples from outside the local area must arrange their own celebrant.  Weddings are preferred during the months February to November.

$400 including photos in Convent garden.

ROOMS FOR HIRE
The Convent has several rooms that are suitable for meetings, seminars, functions.
Tape recorder, CD player available.
There is no overnight accommodation at the Convent. However, accommodation can be arranged nearby in Singleton if required.
Examples to date: Rural Health Task Force, HACC Training Days , Embroiderers’ Guild seminars.

DETAILS OF ROOMS FOR HIRE:

Convent Community Room (60ft x 30 ft)                      $20 per hour
Vinyl covered floor, fluorescent lighting.
Three large tables down the centre.
Furnished with wooden chairs with cushions.
Ample space for small or large groups to meet.
Suitable as work space for craft etc.
Suitable for lecture-type gatherings, and small group discussion.

Convent Reception Room (40 ft x 20 ft)                       $30 per hour
Carpeted floor, incandescent lighting.
Containing heritage furniture and a baby grand piano. 
Large central tables suitable for dining.  Removable.
Austrian cane and wooden chairs, able to be supplemented with vinyl-covered chairs.
Suitable for chamber-type concerts - audience up to 90.
Suitable for cocktail party/luncheon.  Limit 50 persons.

Furnished with several long narrow tables, laminex-top.
Vinyl-covered chairs.
Suitable as work space for craft etc.

A quiet spot in the Convent Garden

 

 

QUIET REFLECTION/ PRAYER

Sacred Spaces is very suitable for quiet reflection and prayer.  The Chapel is particularly conducive to meditation and can be used be special groups for Mass.  Some school staffs or Parish groups take advantage of the peace and quiet of Sacred Spaces and the opportunities offered.  A programme can be arranged if requested.

Examples to date: Staff of St Kevin’s School, Cardiff; Mater Hospital volunteers, St Paul's Booragul Year 11.

The Meagher Library

 

LIBRARY
Sacred Spaces houses an historic library of approximately 7,500 items including books, periodicals, manuscripts, and records documenting the life of a religious community of women over 120 years. The Meagher Library is the bequest of Monsignor Peter Meagher to the Sisters in 1924. Books are accessible on request. The catalogue can be consulted on: http://dlibrary.acu.edu.au/msm/singleton/

There are tasks associated with care and cataloguing of the library that volunteers would be most welcome to assist with.

VOLUNTEERS
The Sisters of Mercy rely on the assistance of a group of generous and dedicated volunteers to maintain the activities of Sacred Spaces.

Volunteer Tour Guides assist with guiding and food service.  Volunteers also assist with hospitality to our visitors, concert organisation, ticket sales, the small memorabilia shop, the museum, the library etc.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer there is sure to be a niche for you in Sacred Spaces.
